Kostra Terms of Use

Last updated: 17 September 2026

These terms are the agreement between you and the developer of Kostra. They are deliberately short and say what each of us may expect of the other. Nothing here takes away a right EU consumer law gives you.

1. Who you are contracting with

Kostra is developed and operated by the sole trader named above, registered in Poland and trading as HulerDevelopment. These terms apply when you install or use the app on any platform. They replace the standard end-user licence the app stores apply by default, except where a store's own rules take precedence.

2. What Kostra is and what it costs

Kostra records what a car costs you: fuel, servicing, insurance, other expenses, trips and reminders, with statistics on top. Kostra is free to start with: one vehicle and three records, so you can see what it does with a car of your own. Everything beyond that — more records, statistics, reports, the trip log, categories of your own — is a subscription, monthly or yearly, whichever suits you. There is no advertising either way. New accounts also get a free trial of the paid part; how long that trial runs and what each plan costs are shown on the subscription screen before you agree to anything, in your own currency, because those figures come from the App Store or Google Play rather than from us. The subscription renews itself at the end of every period and the store charges the payment method it holds, until you switch renewal off. You do that in your store account, not here: Apple and Google run the billing, and we cannot cancel a subscription, issue a refund or change a price on your behalf. The link to the right page is on the subscription screen in the app. Switching renewal off does not cut your access short. You keep it until the period you have already paid for ends. If a price changes, the store asks for your agreement before it charges the new one. Refunds are handled by whichever store took the payment; we can look at your case and tell you what we see, but the decision is theirs. Kostra needs an account and an internet connection, because your records are stored on our server so they survive a lost phone.

3. Kostra is a record, not advice

This matters more than anything else on this page. Kostra helps you keep records. It is not tax, accounting, legal or financial advice, and it is not a certified logbook. Whether an entry is deductible, whether your trip log satisfies your tax office, and whether the figures you file are correct are your responsibility and your adviser's — not the app's. We record every edit to a trip so the history is visible, but that is a property of our data model, not a certification by any authority. Check with your tax adviser before relying on an export.

4. Your account

You need a working email address, or a Google or Apple account, to register. One account belongs to one person. Keep your credentials to yourself; anything done through your account is treated as done by you until you tell us otherwise. If you think someone else has access, change your password and tell us — we can revoke every active session on your account. You must be at least 16, or the lower age your country allows for consent to information-society services, but no younger than 13.

5. Your data stays yours

Everything you enter — vehicles, expenses, trips, notes — remains yours. We claim no ownership of it and no right to use it for anything other than running the service for you. You grant us only what hosting requires: permission to store, copy and transmit your content so the app can show it back to you on your devices. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account.

6. What you may not do

• Use the app to break the law, or to store content you have no right to store. • Attack, overload or probe the service, or try to reach accounts and data that are not yours. • Access the API by automated means outside the app, scrape it, or resell access to it. • Remove or circumvent security measures. • Reverse engineer the app, except to the extent Articles 5 and 6 of Directive 2009/24/EC allow — those rights we cannot and do not restrict. If you break these rules we may suspend or close your account. Where the breach is not serious we will warn you first and give you a chance to fix it.

7. Availability

We run the service with reasonable care but promise no particular uptime. It may be interrupted by maintenance, by a provider's failure or by circumstances beyond our control. We may change, add or remove features. If a change materially reduces what the app does for you, we will announce it in the app at least 30 days beforehand, and you may close your account and take your data with you. We may discontinue the service entirely with at least 30 days' notice, in which case you will have that time to export your records.

8. Your statutory rights

Nothing in these terms limits the rights EU consumer law gives you, including the conformity rules of Directive (EU) 2019/770 on digital content and services and the mandatory consumer rules of the country where you live. If the app fails to work as described, you are entitled to have it brought into conformity under those rules. Tell us what is wrong and we will fix it. Withdrawal right in the EU: a subscription is digital content bought at a distance, so the law normally gives you fourteen days to withdraw from it. Access starts the moment you subscribe, which is what almost everybody wants, and that is only possible if you expressly ask for performance to begin at once and acknowledge that doing so ends the right of withdrawal. The subscription screen asks for exactly that, in those words, before it hands you to the store. None of this limits the stores' own refund policies, which are frequently more generous than the law requires.

9. Liability

We are liable without limitation for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and wherever mandatory law imposes liability regardless of fault. For ordinary negligence we are liable only for breach of an obligation essential to the purpose of this agreement, and only up to the damage typically foreseeable for a free service of this kind. We are not liable for loss caused by data you entered incorrectly, by a decision you took on the basis of a statistic in the app, by your failure to keep your own copy of important records, or by a device, operating system or third-party service failing. None of this affects section 8.

10. Keep your own copy

We back up the service, but a backup exists to recover from our failures, not to undo yours. Deleting an entry or your account is immediate and final. For anything you would be unhappy to lose — a trip log you intend to file, a tax year's expenses — export it from the app and keep the file yourself.

11. Ending the agreement

You may stop using Kostra at any time, and delete your account from Settings → Delete account or through the deletion page on this site. No notice, no reason, no fee. We may terminate this agreement with 30 days' notice, or immediately if you seriously breach section 6. If we close your account for a breach, we will tell you why and, unless the law forbids it, give you a reasonable opportunity to export your data first. Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. The two live in different places — the records are ours to delete, the billing belongs to the store — and only you can stop the billing, from your store account. Cancel first and delete afterwards, or you will go on paying for an account that no longer exists.

12. Third-party services

Signing in with Google or Apple means accepting their terms for that sign-in. Installing the app means accepting the app store's terms for the download. Those relationships are between you and them; we control neither.

13. Governing law and disputes

This agreement is governed by Polish law. If you are a consumer, that choice does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you habitually live (Art. 6(2) of Regulation (EC) No 593/2008). Please write to us first — almost everything is settled that way. The European Commission's ODR platform was discontinued on 20 July 2025 and no longer exists. If we cannot settle a dispute directly, you can find the competent out-of-court dispute resolution bodies for your country through the Commission's consumer redress pages at consumer-redress.ec.europa.eu. In Poland these include the Trade Inspection (Inspekcja Handlowa) and the district consumer ombudsman (powiatowy rzecznik konsumentów). We are not obliged to take part in such proceedings and will tell you whether we will in a given case. You may also bring a claim before the courts of the country where you live.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when the app or the law changes. You will be told in the app or by email at least 30 days before a material change takes effect, and continuing to use Kostra after that date means you accept the new version. If you do not, close your account before then and export your data — that is the point of the notice period.

15. Contact

Write to the email address at the top of this page for anything concerning these terms, a complaint, or a problem with the app. We answer in English, Polish, Ukrainian and Russian.
